A little bit about me

Born in 1963, I began playing golf in 1977, before turning pro in 1980 as an Assistant Professional at Lingdale Golf Club. In 1984 I qualified as a PGA Professional and began my journey to the present day.

I am married to Lisa and have six wonderful children (5 of whom play golf!).

Three of my daughters are plus golfers, who have attained a World Amateur Ranking under my tutelage.

I’m very passionate about golf, and am keen to give back by offering help and advice to all; borne from a vast wealth of knowledge and experience gained through my professional playing days at the highest level and my coaching journey, working from Grass Roots to Elite levels.

Playing Record

  • 1981 – Leicestershire & Rutland PGA Stroke Play Champion
  • 1983 – Finished 2nd in the Midland Region Assistants Championship, played a John O Gaunt GC.
  • 1984 – Finished 9th PGA National Assistants Championship, Sunningdale GC
  • 1987, 1989 & 1995 – Leicestershire & Rutland PGA Matchplay Champion
  • 1987 – Qualified for Final Qualifying at North Berwick GC for The Open Championship at Muirfield.
  • 1987 – Won Burton on Trent GC Midland Pro-Am with a course record 66.
  • 1988 – Qualified for Final Qualifying at Hesketh GC for The Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes GC.
  • 1988 to 1993 – Attended European Tour School Qualifying 4 Times
  • 1989 – Leicestershire County Open Champion
  • 1990 – Leicestershire & Rutland PGA Stroke Play Champion
  • 1992 – Finished 8th in the National Glenmuir PGA Club Pro’s Championship, Finham Park GC
  • 1992 – Qualified for Final Qualifying at Dunbar GC for The Open Championship at Muirfield.
  • 1992 – Finished 4th at Sawgrass GC, USA in the Sussex Sponsored Pro-am
  • 1993 – Finished 19th in the National Glenmuir PGA Club Pro’s Championship, North Berwick GC
  • 1993 – Qualified for Final Qualifying at Little Stone GC for The Open Championship at Royal St George’s GC.
  • 1994 – L&RPGA Oversea Pro-Am winner held at Torrequabrada GC, Spain
  • 1995 – Finished 1st in the Links Golf Tour Pro am held at TPC Hilton Head GC, USA
  • 1997 – Qualified for Final Qualifying at Irvine Bogside GC for The Open Championship at Royal Troon GC.
  • Held 7 course records in my Professional career.

Coaching Achievements

  • 2001 to Present: I’ve coached my daughters, Lianna, Annabel, Jessica and Eleanor, from playing Tri Golf in primary school environment. All four have reached the highest level as Lady Amateur Golfers with 3 representing their Country in Girls & Ladies National Golf Teams. They have also attained a + handicap and also achieved a World Amateur Ranking. Lianna (+5 h’cap) is ranked in the top 100, Annabel (+2 h’cap) is ranked in the top 500 and Jessica (+3 h’cap) is ranked in the top 800.
  • 2003 to Present: Coached to two golfers playing Tri Golf in a Grass Roots Primary School environment to progressing to play at the highest amateur level by representing their country in a Boys & Girls National Golf Team.
  • 2008 to 2015: Leicestershire County Partnership Golf Coach.
  • 2010 to 2019: Leicestershire and Rutland County Golf Coach.
  • 2011: Winner of ‘The Golf Foundation’s’ prestigious Burroughs Award presented at the BMW PGA Championship, Wentworth GC for my Tri-Golf Grass Roots Inner City work within Leicester City Primary Schools.
  • 2011: Coach to the L&RGU U18’s Midland Golf Union Champions.
  • 2017: Represented the PGA and R&A as a Coach in the SwingZone at The Open Championship, Royal Birkdale GC.
  • 2017: Coach to the Royal Birkdale Ladies Scratch Strokeplay Champion.
  • 2018: Coach to the St Rule Ladies Strokeplay Champion, St Andrews.
  • 2018: Represented the PGA and R&A as a Coach in the SwingZone at The Open Championship, Carnoustie GC.
  • 2018: Coach to the L&RGU U14’s 6 Man Midland Golf Union Champions
  • 2018: Coach to the MGU U14’s Strokeplay Champion of Champions.
  • 2019: Represented the PGA and R&A as a Coach in the SwingZone at the Open Championship, Royal Portrush GC, Northern Ireland.
  • 2019: Represented the PGA as a Coach in the SwingZone at the Solheim Cup Match between GB&I v USA, Gleneagles GC, Scotland.
  • 2020: Coach to the winner of the Kissing Tree Ladies Invitational NCAA Collegiate Event, Texas.
  • 2021: Selected to represent the PGA and R&A as a Coach in the SwingZone at the Open Championship, Royal St Georges GC, Kent, England.

1980

1980 - Turned Pro working as an Assistant Professional to Head PGA Professional Jerry Brown at Lingdale GC.

1984 - I qualified as a PGA Professional at the National Sports Centre, Lilleshall Hall, Newport and became a Full PGA Member.

1986 - I was appointed Club Professional at Longcliffe GC, Loughborough, Leicestershire serving the members and management committee for a little over 13yrs.

2000

2000 - I purposefully changed my career path to become a full time golf coach and set up my company www.golfingpartner.com

2006

2006 - Started working with the Leicester City School Sports Partnership delivering Tri Golf to inner city schools within Leicester City.

2011

2011 - I became the Leicester & Rutland Golf Union County Coach working with elite golfers within the County Boys U14, U16 & U18 Teams and the County Mens 1st & 2nd Teams.

2012 - Won a National Coaching Award, namely the ‘Boroughs Award’, presented by the Golf Foundation at the PGA BMW Championship held at Wentworth GC, for my work with SEN Schools in inner city areas of Leicester.

2017

2017 - Worked for the R&A and The PGA in the SwingZone Area at The Open Championship held at Royal Birkdale GC.

2017 - Coach to my daughter Lianna who won the prestigious St Rule, which is a World Ranked Ladies Scratch Tournament played at the home of golf, St Andrews.

2018 - Worked for the R&A and The PGA in the SwingZone Area at The Open Championship held at Carnoustie GC.

2018 - Coach to the Midland Golf Union U14’s 6 Man Champions played at Broughton Heath GC, Derbyshire.

2018 - Coach to the U14 Midland Golf Union Champion of Champions played at Newark GC, Nottinghamshire.

2019

2019 - Selected to represent the PGA and the R&A in the SwingZone at this years Open Championship, Royal Portrush GC, Northern Ireland.

2019 - Selected to represent the PGA in the SwingZone at this years Solheim Cup Match between GB&I v USA, Gleneagles GC, Scotland.
